Call for Papers

Deadline Dec. 15, 2015

Prof. Kelly Oliver’s article “Rape as Spectator Sport and Creepshot Entertainment: Social Media and the Valorization of Lack of Consent” is as timely as it is disturbing. Drawing attention to recent cases of rape on American college campuses, it shows how cell phones and social media have been used to prolong the humiliation of the victims, giving rise to a culture of voyeurism that no longer hides its contempt for women.

The American Studies Journal does not normally issue calls for papers. However, on this occasion we are making an exception. We invite other contributions on the impact of the internet and social media on various aspects of US-American culture and society. Please send abstracts by Dec. 15, 2015 (editor [@] asjournal.org). Contributors will be notified by Jan. 31, 2016 and asked to submit complete articles no later than March 31, 2016. Please see http://www.asjournal.org/submissions/ on matters of style.
